Lady Marauders end regular season with 66-56 win over Miles College
FAIRFIELD, Alabama – The Central State Lady Marauders concluded the regular season with a 66-56 road win over the Golden Bears of Miles College on Monday night.
With the win, CSU finishes the regular season at 21-5 overall and 15-3 in the SIAC. MC drops to 8-18 on the year with a 5-12 mark in the conference.
CSU jumped out to an early 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a six-point lead, 32-26, at the end of the first half.
The Lady Marauders went up by double-digits, 38-28, early in the third quarter with a Sierra Harley three-pointer and later took their largest lead of the night, 58-46, on a Chavon Banks basket with 4:22 left in the game. MC managed to cut the deficit back down to six with 49 seconds to play before Brooke Spaulding and Jaeda Davis added late free throws to seal the CSU victory.
CSU never trailed in the ball game and held a 30-15 edge in points scored off of turnovers.
Spaulding led the Lady Marauders with 18 points. Harley finished with 14 points. Destinee Russel delivered a spark off the bench with 13 points as CSU extended its winning streak to four games.
Victoria Sutton led Miles with 17 points.
Clinching a No. 1 seed in the upcoming SIAC Tournament, CSU will begin play on Wednesday, Feb. 28. All tournament games will be held at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Alabama
Marauders beat Miles for sixth consecutive victory
FAIRFIELD, Alabama – The Central State Marauders defeated the Golden Bears of Miles College, 90-82, on Monday night.
With the win, CSU improves to 13-14 overall with a 11-8 mark in SIAC play. MC drops to 6-19 on the year with a 5-13 ledger in the conference.
CSU overcame a 12-point deficit at halftime by shooting 64.5% from the field in the second half. CSU used a 9-0 run in the early stages of the second half to climb back into the game. CSU took the lead, 54-52, after a Davone Daniels three-pointer at the 11:28 mark. CSU managed to build up a 10-point lead, 74-64, with 4:35 to play as Tom Johnsonmade back-to-back buckets. MC cut the deficit down to five, 80-75, with 1:53 to go. CSU answered as forward Chris Scott scored on the Marauders’ next two possessions to go up by nine with 40 seconds left. Free throws from Martin Oliver and Charles Ruise helped CSU seal the win and extend its winning streak to six games.
Johnson led the comeback effort as he scored all 15 of his points in the second half. Scott led CSU with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Frank Barber III scored 13 points. Daniels went 3 of 4 from three-point range to finish with 11 points. Jeremy Brown added 10 points.
Miles was paced by Carl Garcia’s 24 points and 9 rebounds.
CSU will conclude the regular season on the road on Wednesday against Salem University at 7 pm.
