The Dayton Warriors Softball Fund, an all-volunteer host committee raising funds for Miami
Valley veteran causes, is hosting the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) on
Saturday, 13 October 2018, at Ron Nischwitz Baseball Stadium, at Wright State University.
This is a repeat visit by the WWAST, who visited our area in both 2016 and 2017 to help raise
funds for Fisher Houses, Inc. (WPAFB and Dayton VA), Honor Flight-Dayton, and to send a local
amputee child to the WWAST Kid’s Camp, held in July in Manchester, New Hampshire.
This year’s visit includes two exhibition softball games by the WWAST against local able-bodied
players. Game #1 begins at 9am and features WWAST vs. local Military & 1st Responder AllStars.
Game #2 begins at 2pm and features WWAST vs. Dayton Legends Softball Club All-Stars.
A special part of the WWAST appearance in Dayton every year is a ceremony held between
games. This year’s ceremony honors Gold Star Families, those who have shared in the ultimate
sacrifice associated with service to our country. This “WWAST Salute to Gold Star Families” will
begin at 11am and includes recognition from event beneficiaries like Fisher House, Honor FlightDayton,
the WSU Veteran & Military Center, and the Dayton VA Medical Center.
Tickets for this patriotic event are a mere $5 donation with all revenues (after hosting expenses),
going to meet the mission of the Dayton Warriors Softball Fund: “Honor Our Veterans and Help
Our Community.”
