West Michigan third baseman Danny Pinero hit a two run double to center field with two out in the top of the ninth inning to give the Whitecaps a 3-2 win over the Dayton Dragons. West Michigan leads the best of 3, one game to none.
The Dragons got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth. Jose Siri lead off the inning with a single, and one out later, first baseman Bruce Yari belted a two run homer to right center.
West Michigan came back in the top of the fifth with a run of their own.Danny Pinero singled, went to second on a wild pitch and came in to score on a Anthony Pereira single to center. 2-1 Dragons.
It would stay that way until to top of the ninth. After two were out Daz Cameron singled followed by a walk to Cole Bauml. Then Pinero smacked the ball to deep center field and it went over the head of Jose Siri. Cameron and Baumel both scored to give the Whitecaps the 3-2 lead.
Dayton went out in order to end the game.
Dayton will travel to Grand Rapids Michigan for games two and three, tomorrow night and Friday night if necessary.
