Dayton, OH – The Sinclair (16-8/8-3) Volleyball had to come from behind to pull out a home victory in five sets over visiting OCCAC rival Edison State (12-6/4-4).
In a critical match with district seedings on the line, Sinclair needed a home victory to stay in contention for one of three post season bids from the OCCAC. #1 in the nation Owens has almost wrapped up the first bid with a 9-0 start in the conference. With the win tonight, Sinclair moves into the second seed at 8-3 just ahead of Lakeland at 6-3.
Tonight’s match was full of excitement, but the first set started off slow with little energy. Sinclair just rolled out an early lead and made it look like this was going to be a three set night with the 25-16 opening win.
The Chargers found their energy and reversed the tables on the home team in the second set. Up 21-13, Edison let home team back in the set with some sloppy play. Sinclair was able to get it back to only being down 2 (19-21) before Edison put it away to even the match at 1-1.
The third set Sinclair looked to be in control up 18-10 with Edison playing all defense and not able to get any rallies. Once again the Chargers found the switch and found way after way to pull even at 23 all. After a couple of side outs, Edison pulled out a crazy 28-26 set victory to go up 2-1.
Really not much to say about the fourth set except is was over extremely quick. Sinclair jump out 10-1 and never looked back as they rolled Edison 25-13 to send the match into a fifth and deciding set.
Let the excitement begin. Both teams stayed within one point of each other until Edison posted a 12-10 lead. Knowing what was at steak and playing in front of a loud home crowd in Building 8 Arena, Sinclair pulled together and tied it at 13-13. From that point, Sinclair finished what they started and recorded the win in the fifth set and the match victory.
