ATLANTA, Georgia – Central State guard Takyra Gilbert has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (S-I-A-C) Newcomer of the Week.
A transfer from Cincinnati State Community College, Gilbert has proved to be one a premier scorer throughout the first three weeks of the season. In CSU’s only game last week, Gilbert led the Lady Marauders with 23 points while shooting 40 percent (4 of 10) from behind the arc and 75 percent (3-of-4) from the free throw line. In the feat, the Cincinnati, Ohio native added five rebounds, while reaching a season-high seven assists and three steals as the Lady Marauders beat Albany State, 77-74.
Gilbert is the only CSU player to earn three straight SIAC Newcomer of the Week honors.
