Sinclair Volleyball finishes season 23-12
Dayton, OH – Sinclair volleyball finished the 2017 campaign 23-12 overall and 11-5 in the OCCAC. The Tartan Pride finished 3rd in the OCCAC and qualified for the NJCAA Regional Volleyball tournament held in Port Huron, Michigan last week.
The post-season started off with a hard fought win over Lansing 3-2 before falling to Muskegon 3-1 and Kellogg 3-2 to end the season.
Sinclair did place two sophomores 1st team all-conference; Sarah Bettinger (SO-5-9/Anna H.S.) and Caroline Smith (SO-5-2/Tecumseh H.S.). Freshman Baylee Pursifull (FR-5-11/Tecumseh H.S.) was named Honorable Mention all-conference as well as be named to the All-Freshman team.
Sarah finished an outstanding career with 241 sets played ranking her 8th all-time at Sinclair. She also had 742 kills (4th all-time at Sinclair) and was the first Sinclair player to register 50 or more service aces in back to back seasons since 1999. This season Sarah joined two family members in Sinclair’s top 10 for career service aces. Her 109 service aces ranks her tied for 4th with Niki Poeppelman (94) just ahead of Kim Bettinger (88-89) with 106 and right behind Cheryl Bettinger (94-95) who ranks 3rd with 113. With her 742 kills and over 600 digs, she becomes only the 5th player in Sinclair history to record over 700 kills & 600 digs.
Caroline also cracked the top 10 Sinclair list for most set played in a career, 237. She became only the third player in Sinclair history to record 600 or more assist in both seasons and finished her career with 1,659 assist ranking her 2nd all-time at Sinclair.
