WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Central State’s starting backcourt of Sierra Harley and Takyra Gilbert combined for 55 points as the Lady Marauders cruised to a 98-70 win over Ohio Valley on Sunday.
Bouncing back from a loss to Salem University on Saturday, CSU improved to 1-1 overall. OVU fell to 0-2 on the season.
Harley found her shooting stroke early on, knocking down her first two-three pointers to open the game. By the 5 minute mark of the first quarter, Harley and her team had built a 20-4 lead. OVU fought back to cut the deficit down to 7 but Gilbert closed out the quarter with a three-pointer from the corner and a fast break layup to give her team a 25-13 lead entering the second quarter.
CSU began second quarter with a 16-3 run sparked by three more makes from Harley from beyond the arc. The CSU lead ballooned to 49-26 at halftime.
The third quarter opened up with another Harley three-pointer. 6’4 center Ebony Young provided a spark off the bench by blocking and altering shots. Gilbert poured in nine more points in the quarter as The Lady Marauders remained in control, 78-48, entering the final period.
Gilbert and Jaeda Davis scored the first 8 points for CSU to open the fourth quarter to give the Lady Marauders their largest lead of the night, 87-51. OVU was unable to manufacture any significant offensive runs to cut into the Lady Marauder lead as CSU celebrated its first victory of the season.
Harley finished the night with a game-high 28 points, 6 rebounds, 8 steals and 6 assists. After an 0-10 performance in her prior game, Gilbert had a tremendous bounce back game with 27 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Davis also filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 6 assists, 4 steals and 7 rebounds.
As a team, CSU held a 37-10 edge in points scored off of turnovers.
OVU was led by 19 points from Jordan Cox. Zae Sellers recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds.
CSU will return to action on Thursday when they host Cedarville University at 7 pm. The Yellow Jackets come into Thursday’s game with a 1-1 overall record.
