Women’s Soccer:

Richmond, Ind.- Junior midfielder Abby McCollough’s goal 1:09 into the contest propelled the Earlham College women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Berea on Wednesday.

McCollough fired a shot from just outside the 18-yardbox into the upper corner of the net to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead. Earlham continued to pepper Berea goalkeeper Riley Wolf as the Quakers took 16 shots in the first half. Junior Michaela Bush nearly gave Earlham a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute, but her shot from a sharp angle deflected off of the crossbar.
Leading just 1-0 after halftime, Earlham needed another goal to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Kelsey Moore did just that, scoring in the 58th minute off of a pass from junior Cherrah Barclay.

In total, the Quakers took 26 shots with 17 of them being on net. The Mountaineers fired eight shots with four on net. Earlham  senior goalkeeper Ashley Johnson was tested, however sprawling out to tip two would be goals just wide.

Wolf , despite taking the loss, made 15 saves in the game.

Earlham improves to 1-1 on the season. The Quakers look to make it two straight victories  when Wooster comes to Richmond on Saturday. Kickoff is at noon.

 

Men’s Soccer:

Crawfordsville, Ind. –  Sophomore Nicholas Davis scored his third goal in two games, but Wabash fought back to earn a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Earlham College men’s soccer team on Wednesday.

Dey scored in the 39th minute on an assist from sophomore Daniel Wilson. The Quakers, despite being out shot 10-4, took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Earlham had an opportunity to take a two-goal advantage in the 76th minute, but failed to convert on a penalty kick. The Little Giants (3-0) tied the game less than two minutes later on a goal from Corey Sims.

Neither team would score the rest of regulation or into the first overtime,however Francisco Trejo found the back of the net on a shot from just inside the 18-yard box. Nikola Kajmakoski and  Geno James assisted on the game winning goal.

Earlham dips to 1-2 on the season and returns to action on Sunday afternoon at Oberlin. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm.

Field Hockey:

Delaware, Ohio – Junior Kaitlyn Brunner scored in the 17th minute, but the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan tallied 8 goals to defeat the Earlham College Fielsd Hockey team 8-1 on Wednesday.

Earlham slips to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the NCAC play. The Quakers will try to improve to 2-1 when Sewanee comes to Darrell Beane Stadium on Sunday. The game is slated to begin at Noon

 

 

 

Dayton, Ohio – The Sinclair Volleyball team earned its second home of the 2015-16 season last night with a 3-0 victory over visiting Clark State.

The Tartan Pride took over the first match right from the start with Meg Reineke throwing down three kills to take the game for the win. Clark State struggled to keep up with the aggressive attacks at the net and gave the Tartan Pride some easy points to score off of. Sinclair won the first set 25-12

Clark State was able to get some confidence back while keeping within distance of the Tartan Pride in the second set. Sinclair couldn’t break the lead any more than four points until Alexandra Petri gave the Eagles an attack they couldn’t bring back. Sinclair went on to win the set 25-20.

Both teams played even throughout the third set until Meg Reineke had three kills to put Sinclair up 23-17. From that point, the Tartan Pride took control and finished strong to win their second home match of the season.

 

Urbana Ohio- The debut of Urbana head football coach  Tyler Haines was spoiled by Glenville State Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers shutout the Blue Knights 49-0 at Urbana University Stadium.

The Blue Knight were shutout for the first time since 2008 when Ohio Dominican won 56-0.

Urbana gave the ball away on it’s first two possessions, which lead to two Glenville State first quarter touchdowns. From there the Pioneers rattled off three more scores and lead 35- 0 at the half .

Next up for Urbana will be a trip to Laken Field in Institute West Virginia, when they battle the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm.

Moon Township, Pa. – The University of Dayton football Flyers came from behind twice in the second half to pull out a hard-fought 27-24 win at Robert Morris on Saturday. The Flyers trailed by 10 at the half, gained a lead, lost a lead tied the game with 6:15 left and took the deciding lead with 2:32 to go on a 37 yard field goal by William Will.

Robert Morris got the ball back twice in the games final minutes. The first ended on Danny Leach’s second interception of the day, and the second ended at the Dayton 37 yard line when Flyer defensive end Nate Surges sacked Colonial quarterback Matthew Barr.

The Flyers will return to action, after a bye week, on Saturday September 19th, when they host the Duquesne Dukes in a 1:00 pm kick off. It will be the home opener and will be a part of the University’s family weekend.
