RICHMOND, Ind. – Juniors Abby McCullough and Cherrah Barclay both scored goals, but Rose-Hulman netted four goals including three in the second half to defeat the Earlham College women’s soccer team 4-2 at Matlack Field in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Tuesday.
Kate DeMoss gave the Fightin’ Engineers the lead with her goal in the 27th minute. The Quakers responded, however, when Barclay found McCollough in the box at the 41:48 mark. McCollough fired a shot beating the two-time HCAC Defensive Most Valuable Player Lucinda Combs to level the game 1-1.
Hayley Gilliam gave Rose-Hulman a 2-1 advantage with her goal in the 51st minute. Once again, Earlham battled back as Barclay found herself open at the top of the box in the 57th minute. The Takoma Park, Md., native took one dribble and fired a shot that deflected off of the post and in. The Quakers return to action on Saturday at Manchester. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
