Sinclair Volleyball falls to Cincinnati State Community College in Five

Dayton, OH – The Sinclair (14-9/5-5) Volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker to visiting OCCAC rival Cincinnati State Surge (19-9/7-3) tonight in five games.

The Pride kept up with Cincinnati State’s powerful offensive and defense ends at the net resulting in a win for the Pride in the first match. Cincinnati State went on to win the second match closely (22-25). The second match went back and forth between both teams but the Surge was able to dominate (22-25). Sinclair struggled offensively in match three until they came back to tie the game 24-24. The ending results was Cincinnati State coming away with the victory (27-29). Sinclair gave the Surge a tough game in match four resulting in a win for Sinclair. The last match of the night was hard fought but the Pride weren’t able to defend Cincinnati State’s offensive and aggressive hits at the net. The Surge went on to win the match and the game (6-15).

Meg Rieneke (FR-Outside Hitter/New Knoxville H.S.) tallied for 19 kills in tonight’s game and Alexandra Petri (SO-Outside Hitter/Springboro H.S.) also had 16 kills to help the Tartans offense. Melissa Mireles (SO-Setter/Germantown, OH) contributed with 42 assist for the Tartans in tonight’s game.

Sophomore Melissa Mireles (SO-Setter/Germantown, OH) from Sinclair has 669 assists for the season while averaging 8.36 assists per game. Meg Rieneke (FR-Outside Hitter/New Knoxville H.S.) is also leading the team with 369 kills for the season and averaging 5.03 digs per game.

Sinclair will be travel to Lorain County Community College on Saturday October 17th at 11:00 am. The Tartans will be back on their home court against Lakeland Community College on Friday October 23rd at 6:00pm.

All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.

Earlham Quaker notes

RICHMOND, Ind. – Senior Jacob Ebbs and junior Bret Marshall both found the back of the net as the Earlham College men’s soccer team earned a key 2-0 victory over Transylvania in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Wednesday.

Sophomore Vojislav Tatarevic sent a cross to the top of the 18-yard box in the 38th minute. Ebbs calmly took one dribble and fired a shot near post beating Pioneers’ goalkeeper Cody Waltrip. The goal was Ebbs’ fifth of the season.

The Quakers took a 1-0 lead into halftime, and continued to enjoy the majority of the possession in the second half.

Earlham’s leading goal scorer, sophomore Nicholas Dey, broke loose down the far sideline in the 72nd minute. Dey sent a cross to the far post which found the head of Marshall. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native simply redirected the cross into the net to give the Quakers a 2-0 lead.

Earlham held a 14-10 advantage in shots, though both teams fired just five shots on net. The Quakers also earned five corner kicks while the Pioneers took three. With the win, Earlham remains unbeaten at home.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicola Manni earned the shutout victory making five saves in the contest.

The Quakers improve to 6-5 on the season and 3-1 in HCAC play. Earlham, who now sits in second place in the conference, travels to Mount St. Joseph for a 3:30 p.m. contest on Saturday.

Yoho Selected to Preseason Team

Wright State men’s basketball senior JT Yoho has been selected to the Horizon League Preseason Second Team as voted by the head coaches, media and sports information directors.

Yoho, a 6-6 forward from Bloomfield, Indiana, averaged 15.6 points and 6.4 rebounds a game last year in 16 games after missing games due to an injury.  He collected his career-high 25 points at Charleston Southern and his career-high 12 rebounds at Western Carolina.

The Raiders will open the season at the NIU Showcase November 13-15 where Wright State plays South Dakota, Cal State Northridge and host Northern Illinois.  Season tickets for the full 15-game 2015-16 home season are now available starting at $99.
