Urbana Ohio- The debut of Urbana head football coach Tyler Haines was spoiled by Glenville State Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers shutout the Blue Knights 49-0 at Urbana University Stadium.
The Blue Knight were shutout for the first time since 2008 when Ohio Dominican won 56-0.
Urbana gave the ball away on it’s first two possessions, which lead to two Glenville State first quarter touchdowns. From there the Pioneers rattled off three more scores and lead 35- 0 at the half .
Next up for Urbana will be a trip to Laken Field in Institute West Virginia, when they battle the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm.
Moon Township, Pa. – The University of Dayton football Flyers came from behind twice in the second half to pull out a hard-fought 27-24 win at Robert Morris on Saturday. The Flyers trailed by 10 at the half, gained a lead, lost a lead tied the game with 6:15 left and took the deciding lead with 2:32 to go on a 37 yard field goal by William Will.
Robert Morris got the ball back twice in the games final minutes. The first ended on Danny Leach’s second interception of the day, and the second ended at the Dayton 37 yard line when Flyer defensive end Nate Surges sacked Colonial quarterback Matthew Barr.
The Flyers will return to action, after a bye week, on Saturday September 19th, when they host the Duquesne Dukes in a 1:00 pm kick off. It will be the home opener and will be a part of the University’s family weekend.
Richmond Ind. – The is a recap of the day in Earlham athletics.
Field Hockey: Junior Megan Hut netted the hat trick and senior goalkeeper Kate Korobkina did not surrender a goal as the Quakers shutout Transylvania University 4-0 to win the season opener on Saturday.
Men’s Soccer: Sophomore Nicholas Day netted two goals including the game-winner in the 69th minute as Earlham earned it’s first victory of the season 3-2 over Emory & Henry on Saturday.
The Quakers will travel to Ohio Wesleyan for the NCAC opener on Wednesday September 9th at 7:00 pm.
Earlham stands 1-1 and will return to action on Wednesday September 9th, when they host Wabash College at 5:00 pm.
Football: Senior wide receiver Jalen Kenner caught seven passes for 72 yards to lead the Quakers offensively but Olivet was firing on all cylinders and took the season opener 74-13.
The Quakers will try and regroup when they return to action next Saturday when the DePauw Tigers come calling for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
Dayton, Ohio – The Sinclair (1-2/4-5) Volleyball team earned it’s first conference win of the 2015-16 season today with a 3-1 victory over visiting Lorain County (1-3/6-3).
Lorain County playing their third conference match in less than 24 hours and having just lost at Cincinnati State earlier in the day, came out ready to play and pulled out a 25-22 opening game win.
Sinclair was able to get some confidence back after dropping game one by jumping all over the Commodores early. Sinclair went up 7-1 to start the second game and really never looked back and evened the match at one game each.
Sinclair went on to went on to win the final two sets 25-20 and 25-22.
Sinclair will host Clark State on Wednesday September 9th at 6:00 pm in Building 8 on the downtown campus of Sinclair Community College in downtown Dayton.
