Springfield, Ohio – In recognition of his tremendous performance against Ohio Wesleyan on Sept. 19, Wittenberg University senior wide receiver Corey Stump (Lima, Ohio/Central Catholic) has earned a spot on the Team of the Week from D3football.com.
Stump also earned North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Offensive Player of the Week. Both the NCAC and the D3football.com awards are the first of Stump’s collegiate career.
Stump opened the scoring against Ohio Wesleyan with a career-long 84-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter, and he piled up the numbers from there. By game’s end, Stump had tied the Wittenberg record with 14 receptions, good for 234 yards and four touchdowns. The yardage and touchdown totals both rank second in program history.
Through the first two games of the season, Stump is second on the team with 18 receptions for 294 yards. Those totals put him second in the NCAC as well, behind only teammate Zack Culvahouse (Fort Myers, Fla./Estero).
Ranked 15th nationally by D3football.com and 16th by the American Football Coaches Association, Wittenberg stands 2-0 on the 2015 season, including a mark of 1-0 in the NCAC. The Tigers opened the season with a 38-27 win at Capital and followed it with a 42-21 home victory over Ohio Wesleyan. The season continues on Saturday, Sept. 26, with a road trip to 11th-ranked Wabash.
